Angelos Tzortzinis is an Athens-based Greek photographer and a graduate of the Leica Academy of Creative Photography. His practice is grounded in long-term observation and sustained presence in the field, focusing on people and the ways they experience crisis, displacement, and social upheaval.
His work moves beyond the immediate recording of current events, concentrating instead on the duration of events and their less visible consequences: resilience, loss, adaptation, and everyday survival. Through a visual language that combines precision with emotional intensity, he has developed a cohesive body of work around the human landscape of contemporary crisis.
He has received major international distinctions, including from TIME (Wire Photographer of the Year 2015), UNICEF Photo of the Year 2020, World Press Photo (2021, Long-Term Projects – 3rd Prize for Trapped in Greece), the Sony World Photography Awards, Picture of the Year International (POYi), the Magnum Foundation, and Visa Pour l’Image.
Tzortzinis is among a small group of Greek photographers with sustained and meaningful international recognition in contemporary photography, with a body of work distinguished by visual power, consistency, and a profound understanding of the human experience.
